September '22 PART 3: Solid Rock and Shifting Landscape

It seems that God is doing something remarkable at Moscow Bible Church. We expect that we will have a score of unchurched people at our Sunday services. However, usually their reaction to what they see and hear is rather reserved. However, these last few weeks were visibly different. Not only did we have numerous people who came to church for the very first time, but they were genuinely touched by what they saw and heard. All of them were over the top enthusiastic and wanted to come back. The feeling is that of a budding revival.

Take for example Evgeniy who was so excited after the service that he scolded his friend for not inviting him to church sooner. He smiled and nodded through the entire sermon. I was certain that he was a Christian! So you can imagine my surprise when I learnt a little bit more about him. He was supposed to come back again this Sunday.

However, things changed on Wednesday morning this week. President Putin announced partial mobilization and Evgeniy is one of the men that will more than likely called into active duty in the ensuing weeks. His military profile fits the bill of those who are summoned in the first wave of this draft. But then again so do a lot of other people. For example, it appears from all the explanations given by the government officials today that people like me (Constantin) will not be called up any time soon, but one cannot help but take a little bit more seriously the military status “to be called up in the first wave of mobilization” that I see when I open my Army ID.

It is easy to be lost today. The landscape is shifting quickly and the foundations on which one builds his or her life are tested once again. This coming Sunday I plan to address the church and remind all of us that our lives are built on the solid and unchanging Rock that is Christ Jesus Himself. And who knows maybe this uncertainty will help people to re-examine their lives and find salvation in the loving arms of Jesus. Perhaps this will be the beginning of a revival like Russia has never seen before. Let’s pray that it happens as we pray for Evgeniy and countless other men whose lives changed as of this morning.

Yours in praying and hastening the day of revival in Moscow and Russia,

Constantin and Alexandra
