JULY '24: Fun series of sermons and seemingly neverending saga of apartment remodeling

How are you doing? It has been way too long! The winter and spring were somewhat of a whirlwind for our family. During Lent and beyond I preached a 12-week series of sermons called “Starting Point” on the foundations of Christian faith. In a way this sermon series followed the outline of the creeds, in that it began with a brief prolegomenon on faith and the Bible, followed by the study of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. After that I concluded it with the study of man, sin, salvation, the church, and end times. It was complete with Bible study curriculum and daily readings.

It is the first in a series of materials geared for basic discipleship that we are developing at Moscow Bible. One of the distinctive features of this series was that each sermon contained a section called “alternative” that was designed to help the audience not only to examine Christian claims, but also to see what the alternative is. As Glen Scrivener, an Aussie who now lives and ministers in Great Britain and who is the author of the book “The Air We Breathe” put it: “Christians believe in virgin birth of Jesus. Atheists believe in virgin birth of the universe. Choose your miracle.” I met Glen several years ago in Munich at a very small pastors’ conference and was very impressed with his creative approach to evangelism.

On a personal note, the spring was busy for us with continued remodeling of our new place (no we did not move yet, even though we should have moved about a month and a half ago) and a minor surgery that our youngest had to go through. Elena’s tear-ducts were too narrow so after two unsuccessful attempts to simply clear them, the doctors had to insert microscopic stents to expand them. We are hoping that over the next four months her tear-ducts will expand and when the stents are removed, she will not have any more problems.

We are so grateful to God for the professional doctors He gave us with this surgery. We praise Him for our new place that we will move into soon. And we are ever thankful to Him for the incredible privilege of serving at Moscow Bible Church.

Yours in praying and hastening the day of revival in Moscow and Russia,

Constantin and Alexandra

PS Visit to the hospital did not stop our little girl from being picked as one of the models for the children’s line of clothing here in Moscow. I still do not know what I think about her starting a modeling career at a tender age of one year old but I am grateful that she gets her looks from her mom and not from me. The cover photo above is from that commerical photo shoot.

FOUR PRAYER REQUESTS:

  • Please do pray that the surgery that Elena went through would cure her issue with tear-ducts
  • Our kids camp is starting this coming Saturday. Please pray that this would be a very special time when kids develop their personal relatioship with God. This is especially imporant for kids from families that do not attend our church because this is our opportunity to share the Gospel with them and to get them involved in our children's program.
  • There are two major issues that our church needs to tackle in order to grow and develop: small groups and evangelism. Please pray that we would grow the number of our small groups and that we would become the church that is know for boldly and creatively sharing the Gospel.
  • It is easy to forget about the war and it is very easy to get used to it. I'm so grateful to our team of volunteers that bring humanitarian aid almost to the front lines of this war on a bi-monthly basis. Their stories and pictures remind all of us of the reality of carnage that is still going on. Please continue to pray with us for peace between Russia and Ukraine.
